“Bra J” Celebrates birthday by hosting junior tournament.

A historical football tournament for young children was held in honour of one of the pioneers and hard workers in football development in the Gert Sibande Region on Friday 05 October 2018 at AJ Swanepoel Stadium, Ermelo. Bra J’s 41st Birthday Celebration Cup featured eight (8) under 13 clubs held in honour of Dumisani “Jomo” Malaza as part of his 41st birthday celebrations.
The under 13 division was chosen by Mr Malaza to celebrate his 41st birthday because it is a division that is closer to his heart. Six (6) local teams (Wesselton Stars, Breyten Stars FC, Mpumalanga United FC, Megaforce Academy, City Gunners FC & Mighty Little Guys) from Msukaligwa Local Municipality were joined by Citizen FC and Mara Mara FC from Mkhondo Local Municipality. The un der 13 cup was won by Wesselton Stars FC after defeating Breyten Stars FC 2-1 in the final at AJ Swanepoel Stadium, Ermelo.

He was reduced to tears of joy when long-time friend in football development Mr Doctor “Skhulu” Mnisi of Breyten United FC presented him with a gift of his photo.

Dumisani “Bra J” Malaza the owner of Wesselton Stars FC and former secretary of Msukaligwa LFA was very happy to celebrate his day with the kids in the field of play. “The under 13 is the introductory division for young future stars. This is where we identify talent and nurture it further. This is my way of giving back to the community. I love working with kids and to see them succeed in football. I am grateful to the friends who contributed to the games, the clubs and the sponsors KaMgabadeli Projects, the Department of Culture, Sports& Recreation (DCSR) Ermelo McDonald and VOC FM for supporting the games.

He was reduced to tears of joy when long-time friend in football development Mr Doctor “Skhulu” Mnisi of Breyten United FC presented him with a gift of his photo. The portrait had words written dedicated to Bra J which read: “Cheers to the true living player, legend, coach, guardian and mentor in football Bra Dumisani Malaza.” It was the only special gift presented to the man on his special day at a place he loves the most, the field of play. Mr Malaza (41) grew up in Saul Mkhizeville, Mkhondo where he developed his love for football. He moved to Ermelo where he developed passion for coaching kids. He established Wesselton Stars FC and has worked extremely hard in promoting grassroots football in the region. He has been good in grassroots football leading to the Msukaligwa Local Football Association to ask him to come back and serve in the Competitions Committee of the association. He previously held the position of secretary before falling out with the leadership of Msukaligwa LFA towards the end of 2014. He left the association to focus on his club Wesselton Stars FC and organising youth football tournaments in the region. He has another junior tournament known as Jomo Malaza u/15 Winter Games. The under 15 tournament has been playing annually since the year 2010 during winter school holidays at Saul Mkhizeville, Mkhondo. Next year will be the 10th edition of the games and he has promised to work hard to find sponsors to help with prizes and other logistics.
