Club demoted to the Super League for failing to honour games

Football News

Thandukukhanya Promotion League stream A club Mangosuthu Sundowns FC has been automatically relegated to the Super League after the club failed to honour more than three (3) matches since the league began in September. The Mkhondo LFA disciplinary committee ruled on the matter and instructed the association’s secretary to write a letter to inform the club of the decision taken on Monday 22 October 2018.

The club played only two (2) matches before throwing the towel when problems emerged. They lost the first match 8-0 away to Mara Mara FC at Moolman then failed to honour the following match against Ajax Sweepers FC also away at Ajax. The Mangosuthu (ward 14) based club lost 4-0 against Dube United FC at home before calling it quits.

“They told me they are scared to play because their school mates laugh at them at school when they lose a match with big scores”.

They did not honour the next fixtures against Liverpool FC at home, against Thandolokukhanya FC (A), Shining Stars FC (H) and Manchester Juniors FC (A) which was scheduled on Sunday 21 October 2018. The club will now participate in the lower division which is planned for the next season by the Mkhondo Local Football Association.

Mangosuthu Sundowns FC worked very hard last season to improve their position in the log to 13th. They could not carry the form to the 2018/19 season leading to their untimely demotion to the Super League.

The club owner Sky Simelane said he was disappointed by his players for not attending matches due to silly reasons. “These boys are very young and they give up easily. They told me they are scared to play because their school mates laugh at them at school when they lose a match with big scores. They also told me they do not want to waste my money by losing all the time, but that should not be their problem. They should concentrate on playing and leave the other things to me,” he said. Mr Simelane is justified for being disappointed by the actions of his players. The club improved last season finishing at position 13 in a 16 team league having won 9, drawn 4 and losing 17 matches. It was a best position achieved by the club in its history. They have relegated themselves and will now be part of the new Mkhondo Super League to begin at the start of the 2019/2020 season.

The decision to introduce a Super League was taken by the Mkhondo Local Football Association to encourage competition in the league and accommodate the growing number of clubs in Thandukukhanya. The Mkhondo Super League will be a division below the Mkhondo Promotion League which means there will be promotion and relegation for the first time in Mkhondo since the 2008/2009 season.
