The office of the Gert Sibande Football Association sent an email to clubs calling for registration of clubs and players to prepare for the new season of the Regional Women League set to kick off in March 2019. The closing date for club registration and affiliation is Monday 25 February 2019.
The Regional Women League of the Gert Sibande Region is divided into stream A&B due to the vastness of the region the same way the mens’ SAB League is structured in the region. Stream A consist of clubs from Pixley ka Isaka Seme LFA, Lekwa LFA, Govern Mbeki LFA and Dipaleseng LFA. However there was no action last season from the stream A after clubs failed to affiliate due to different reasons but the main being the steep transport costs.
The active Stream B consist of clubs from Mkhondo LFA, Chief Albert Luthuli LFA and the Msukaligwa LFA. This stream was kept alive by dedication and hard work of Mr Thembela Mdluli the chairperson of the Women Football Committee at the Mkhondo Local Football Association (Mkhondo LFA). Thembela who also owns and coach Hintalo Stars FC befriended the unfriend-able Miss Nomvula Mathebula the Regional Executive Officer of the association. Their friendship turned into a workable relationship with Thembela playing middle man to all the clubs that were finding it difficult to communicate with the iron lady of the Gert Sibande FA. The result was a nine (9) team league that played from April until September last year with Hintalo Stars FC winning the league ahead of rivals Silindile FC. The two (2) clubs were both promoted and will play in the SASOL League this year.
The two promoted clubs Hintalo Stars FC from Mkhondo Local Municipality and Silindile FC from Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality are expected enter their development teams in the Regional Women League to continue developing players for their senior teams. The other clubs expected to participate in this season of the league include Moleko Stars FC, Dube United Ladies FC, Losta Stars Ladies FC (all from Mkhondo), Breyten Stars (Breyten), Destruction Girls (Chressiemeer), Mighty Little Girls (Chressiemeer) all from Msukaligwa Local Municipality and MT Valencia from Fernie at Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municiplaity. The ultimate prize is promotion to the SASOL League which is set to become the 2nd division in women football after the launch of the SA Women National League in July this year.
