Good times have definitely arrived at Ubuhlebuzile with 2nd league title in three years

The 3rd league season of Mkhondo Schools Ladies Soccer League was decided in the last game of the season between Ubuhlebuzile Secondary and Inqubeko Secondary School on Wednesday 15 August 2018. Ubuhlebuzile Secondary defeated their title rivals Inqubeko Secondary 2-0 scoring a goal in each half of the match to lift the trophy at Mandla Magudulela Stadium, Thandukukhanya.
The first goal for Ubuhlebuzile was scored by Nokwazi McDonald in the first half to take her team to a 1-0 lead at half time. Nokulunga Nkosi scored the 2nd goal to seal the title for the four (4) year old Ubuhlebuzile Secondary School. The girls from Ubuhlebuzile have performed very well since the league began in the year 2016 where they finished in third place behind Inqubeko Secondary and Amadlelo Aluhlaza. They won the 2017 league season with an eight (8) point lead over second placed Ndlela Secondary School. This is the 2nd league title for the five (4) year old Ubuhlebuzile Secondary School having opened its doors in beginning of 2015. They have also won all the Ladies League Cup titles in 2016, 2017 &2018 under the 2018 league coach of the season Thembela Mdluli who is also coach of Hintalo Stars FC.

The league champions were the big winners of the day in the individual prizes. Goalkeeper Mapule Khumalo (18) won goalkeeper of the season. Mapule only conceded one goal against Inqubeko Secondary when they lost 1-0 loss in the first round of the league. The best defender of the tournament went to Bongeka “Ganda-Ganda” Ndaba (17) of Ubuhlebuzile Secondary. Bongeka became the first ever captain to lift the ladies league trophy when she was still at Amadlelo Aluhlaza in the 2016 season. The most promising player of the season went to Nontobeko Mkhwanazi (16) from Harmony Park Combined School. Nontobeko’s teammate and striker Lebogang Magola won top goal scorer of the season. The young girls were also part of the Mkhondo Invitational team that played Young Buffalo Ladies FC on the 9th of August 2018 during the Mkhondo Women’s Day Soccer Challenge. The Diski Queen of the season award went to another veteran of the ladies league Cebelihle Simelane of Inqubeko Secondary School.

The champions were crowned with gold medals, a big trophy and a match ball which were presented by members of the local branch of FNB Piet Retief who sponsored the prizes for the girls. The 2nd placed team Inqubeko Secondary School received silver medals, a small trophy and a match ball for finishing 2nd in the league. The 3rd place team in the league Harmony Park Combined School won bronze medals and a match ball for participating in the league. The young girls were under the guardianship of veteran teacher and football coach Mr DJ Mshololo who also coaches the players outside of school at Dube United Ladies FC playing Regional Women League.

The Mkhondo Schools Ladies League was formed in 2016 by the Mkhondo Local Football Association with the aim of encouraging participation of girls’ football. The schools that have participated over the years are Amadlelo Aluhlaza, Harmony Park Combined, Inqubeko Secondary, Ndlela Secondary, Ubuhlebuzile Secondary and PR Combined School.
