The burning issue of the abandoned iNtokozo U19 Cup final was dealt with by the Mkhondo LFA Disciplinary Committee on Wednesday afternoon 11 December 2019. The Disciplinary Committee found PR Wanderers FC guilty of misconduct and ruled that the match be awarded to Total Football United FC. This effectively means the defending champions Total Football United have defended the trophy to become champions once again.
In a statement read out to the representatives of PR Wanderers FC the Mkhondo Local Football Association said: After reading the report from the match officials the Mkhondo LFA disciplinary committee found PR Wanderers FC guilty of misconduct for refusing to take an instruction from a match official. The club was charged on Rule 24 Acts of Misconduct of the SAFA Competition Rules which states: Without derogating from the generality of what constitutes an act of misconduct/offence, the following is specifically declared to be an act of misconduct/offence on the part of a team where: Rule 24.2.8 the club fails to comply with any lawful order or instruction made by the Disciplinary Committee, an official of SAFA, and /or match officials.
This should be a lesson to all clubs who think that problems that arise from matches during tournaments should be decided by the football administrators at the side of the field. Football administrators to games to enjoy watching football not to take decisions, only the referee’s decision is final during a match.
The club was basically found guilty of refusing to listen to the one and only person in charge of a match i.e. the match referee and his assistants. This should be a lesson to all clubs who think that problems that arise from matches during tournaments should be decided by the football administrators at the side of the field. These days’ football administrators only go to games to enjoy watching football not to take decisions, only the referee’s decision is final during a match.
The champions had a good tournament but did not have an easy ride to the final. They faced their bitter rivals Citizen FC in round 1 emerging 4-2 on penalties. The Phola Park side faced their neighbours and rivals Comet Riders FC in the quarter finals. The match had both teams protesting against each other only to withdraw later before paying the R300 protest fee. Total Football United won by 3 goals to nil to move to the next round. They faced another rival Bayern Munich FC in the semi-final which they comfortably won 3-1 to set up the final against PR Wanderers FC
In the final the champions drew first blood via a header by Siyabonga ‘Ibrah’ Zwane from a set piece in the 26th minute of the 1st half. They went into half time leading by a goal to nil. The 2nd half played for 10 minutes before PR Wanderers captain asked the referee to stop the game because the ground was wet. That is when the match referee blew his whistle to end the match leading to a boardroom discussion to decide the champions of the 2019 edition of iNtokozo Under 19 Cup.
