Junior tournament launched in KwaNgema for the first time ever

The biggest football festival in Mkhondo Local Municipality which took place from the beginning until the end of December 2018 did not only focus on the senior teams but was extended to junior football clubs in Mkhondo Local Municipality. iNtokozo under 19 Cup for under 19 players and Mkhondo Festive Cup for under 17s played in Thandukukhanya, Champion Bottle Store u/17 Cup at Saul Mkhizeville and a brand new tournament played at kwaNgema known as Msakhisto 07 SS4 under 17 Cup.

The Ngema-Dirkiesdorp Sub Local Football Association introduced the under 17 cup for the first time ever when the tournament played from the 17th to 23 December 2018 at Nohhemu Sport Ground, kwaNgema, a rural area situated about 50 km from the Mkhondo CBD. It was established by the Deputy Secretary of the Sub LFA to encourage clubs to establish junior teams with the help of local businessman Mr Ngema. Mr Ngema surprised the organisers of the tournament by presenting them with a big trophy and medals. The inaugural tournament featured only four (4) teams at the area where youth football is slow to take off. The four teams were Juventus FC, Mighty Bombers FC, Peace Lovers FC and Red Lion FC.

Tournament was established by the Deputy Secretary of the Sub LFA to encourage clubs to establish junior teams with the help of local businessman Mr Ngema.

The format was a point system involving the four teams with the top two qualifying for the final. The games began on Monday 17 December 2018 with Peace Lovers FC vs Red Lion FC playing the first match. The two sides played an exciting 2-2 draw in the first ever match of the first ever youth tournament in the area. In the other match Juventus FC from Ematafuleni won 3-1 against Mighty Bombers FC before losing 2-1 in their second game against Peace Lovers FC. Red Lion FC thrashed Mighty Bombers FC 3-0 to set up a do or die match against Juventus FC in their last match of the group. The last group matches saw Peace Lovers FC defeating Mighty Bombers FC 2-1 to sit on top with 7 points. Red Lion FC needed a draw or win to qualify for the final and managed to hold Juventus FC playing a 1 all draw to qualify for the final against Peace Lovers FC.

Sakhi Nhlabathi handed over the trophy to Peace Lovers FC captain and coach after winning the Msakhisto 007 u17 Cup tournament which was played at Nohhemu Grounds, kwaNgema on 23 December 2018.

The final match was played on Sunday 23 December 2018 at Nohhemu Ground between Peace Lovers FC vs Red Lion FC. Red Lion FC which is used to playing tournaments having played in Thandukukhanya and the annual Jomo Malaza u/15 Winter Games met Peace Lovers FC playing for the first time as a youth club. Peace Lovers FC was too much for Red Lions FC as they walloped them 4-1 in the final match. The inaugural champions won a big trophy and gold medals for becoming the first ever champions of the under 17 cup. Red Lion FC finished second and won themselves silver medals. The Ngema Dirkiesdorp Sub LFA has promised to make this an annual tournament and will work on establishing a junior league to be based in kwaNgema and Mabola.
