The local traditional authority of Madabukela Traditional Council led by Chief TB Mthethwa will hold the 2nd annual Youth Day Celebration Fun Run/Walk on Saturday 22 June 2019 at Madabukela, Mkhondo. The 7km fun run will start at 7am from the Wittenburg turnoff on Lunerburg road and the 5km walk will begin at Webber Primary School ending at the tribal offices at Madabukela also the home Chief Mthethwa.
The youth day celebration will be taking place for the 2nd time this year in celebration of the freedom that was brought to the current generation by the young people of June 16, 1976. It will be an all day event starting with sporting activities in the morning to be followed by cultural activities, educational and career guidance presentations by different stakeholders. The leader of Madabukela Traditional Council the Honourable Chief Mthethwa said the traditional council want to keep young people aware of the significance of the day and to celebrate it with positive and educational activities.
"The event is to celebrate youth day with different activities like drama, debate and poetry with Ndlovukazii (Kazii M) as our biggest artist."
They moved the event to a week later than June 16 to avoid clashing with government activities. "We do not want to clash with government events by holding the event on June 16 hence we decided to hold our youth celebration a week later. This is the same way we have been doing King Shaka’s Day which is officially celebrated on Heritage Day, ours at Madabukela happens after the official day in October."
The entertainment will be provided by different culture and arts groups from around Mkhondo including local poet Kazii M who just realised her debut album Isifundo Sokuqala. Kazii M real name Sindisiwe Mhlongo is a well known poet in Mkhondo and within the circles of Madabukela having also performed at the event last year. "The event is to celebrate youth day with different activities like drama, debate and poetry with Ndlovukazii (Kazii M) as our biggest artist. We will also have organisations like SETA, NSFAS, Gert Sibande TVet College and Lullaway to help young people with job opportunities,” said the Honourable Chief Mthethwa.
Athletes who will like to participate in the fun run/walk should register at Mkhondo Youth Center in Thandukukhanya or contact 0818153506 to be directed to the organisers responsible for that village. There will be no registrations on the day of the event to make ure the race begins at 7am.
