The 7th annual Christmas tournament that was supposed to start on Wednesday 18 December 2019 has been postponed by the Mkhondo LFA to allow more clubs to enter the competition. These new developments came as a result of a new sponsorship received by the association after the withdrawal of Mr Dumsani Msibi as the main sponsor. This effectively means the games will kick off on Thursday 19 December 2019 after a new draw has been conducted today at 4pm at Mandla Magudulela Stadium, Thandukukhanya.
The annual soccer tournament received a huge boost from the sport loving Executive Mayor of the Mkhondo Local Municipality the Hon. Cllr. Vusi Motha. The executive mayor has pledged R50 000 towards the prizes for 7th edition of the tournament which is scheduled to play on 19 to 25 December 2019 at Mandla Magudulela Stadium, Thandukukhanya. This has prompted the Mkhondo Local Football Association to suspend the fixtures that were supposed to begin on Wednesday 18 December 2019 to set up a new meeting and draw for the tournament. In addition the association has opened 16 more places for clubs to enter the tournament in order to make a total of 32 teams. The Mkhondo LFA will meet clubs to do a draw for the expected 32 teams, set rules and format of the tournament including the cash prizes to be won.
The executive mayor Hon. Cllr. Vusi Motha requested that the joining fee be reduced from R1000 to R500 to allow as many clubs to participate.
